Cutting and Grinding Discs
Cutting and grinding discs are known as abrasives, meaning a mineral that is used to shape or finish a workpiece through rubbing or creating friction between the mineral and the workpiece, which leads to part of the workpiece being worn away or separated. Cutting and grinding discs belong to an abrasive’s classification known as bonded abrasives and are alternatively called thin cut-off wheels. Cutting and grinding discs are referred to as bonded abrasives because when manufactured one of the ingredients used is a soft and lighter bonding agent, knowns as resinoid bond. This is used to keep the structure of the disc intact weather in use or not, with the help of the fibre webbing. The process used to manufacture cutting and grinding discs is similar to that of baking a dough, because once all ingredients are mixed together, they are put in a high degree oven and cooled thereafter, this process then makes them perishable. The expiry date on cutting and grinding discs is a maximum of three years and they must be stored in at least room temperature environment. Common application materials are on mild steel, stainless steel, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, glass, tungsten, ceramics, construction materials and many more. The common cutting and grinding discs applications are cutting and stock or material removal on pipe, solid block and sheet metal materials, and they come in different shapes, sizes and grits. Cutting discs can be used with accessories such as safety flanges if needed and must never be used for a grinding application. Bearing Man Groups Range Cutting and grinding discs can be used in various market sector applications such as DIY, agriculture, automotives, sawmills, mining, trucking, foundries and general engineering workshops such metal fabrication, fettling, woodwork, etc.
